Montana's Quality Higher Education System

Preparing for College

Staff from the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education and Montana's Colleges and Universities work with teachers and administrators from Montana school districts to help improve students' transition from high school to post-secondary education. For the Mathematics and Writing Proficiency Initiatives, committees considered the K-12 Content Standards, which can be found at the Office of Public Instruction website. In addition, members of the Montana Board of Regents meet periodically with members of the Board of Public Education to discuss education issues that affect all students.

Another important connection between K-12 and higher education is the college admissions exam. About 55% of Montana's students take the ACT (for more information go to (www.act.org) and about 20% of Montana's students take the SAT (www.collegeboard.com). The College Board also administers Advanced Placement exams.

Many high school students attend the Montana Post Secondary Educational Opportunities Council Fall Tours, where representatives from Montana's campuses provide information to prospective students.
