The Montana TRACKS Project - American Indians in Education
The
goal of the project is to increase the number of American Indian students
who graduate with baccalaureate degrees.
TRACKS Task Force
Mission Statement
The
TRACKS Task Force will recommend procedures and policies
to the Office of Public Instruction and the Office of the Commissioner
of Higher Education for the design and implementation of a comprehensive,
kindergarten through postsecondary, database of American Indian
students. The TRACKS Task Force will critique the development of
tracking and reporting mechanisms within the Office of Public Instruction
and the Montana University System which will provide a statistical
profile of the participation and achievement of American Indian
students.
The TRACKS project goals are:
1. Design of a database and a tracking system to monitor American
Indian participation and performance at every educational level.
2. Development of specific statewide goals with implementation activities and timelines to increase American Indian participation and performance.
3. Development of a strategy for legislative financial support for specific programs designed to enhance American Indian involvement and achievement in the state educational system.
